Sports Officiating | PE 61

 

 

This class is designed to offer students the knowledge and experience necessary to potentially become an official in a variety of sports; including, but not limited to baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and volleyball. Coursework will include classroom activities, field experiences, guest speakers and video lessons. Upon successful completion of this class, students interested in employment may pursue recreational and/or NSAA certification at their own cost.

 

Objectives:

  • To explore, identify and assess opportunities and benefits derived from participation in physical activities.

  • To demonstrate and apply knowledge of the games and game situations, their rules, strategies, playing environments and appropriate interaction with coaches, parents and athletes.

  • To demonstrate the ability to obtain, organize and evaluate information successfully.

  • To treat others in a considerate and non-demeaning manner.

 

Grading Criteria:

  • Unit written exams.

  • Unit study guides, worksheets & quizzes.

  • Observe one NSAA athletic contests (baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball or volleyball).

  • Dress out and participate in simulated games and conditioning activities.

  • Officiate simulated games and perform proper mechanics and signals for each sport.
